Why Vietnam?

Born and raised in the United States, I have always lived the good American life. Against this backdrop, I grew up wondering what my purpose in life was. It wasn’t until I met Jesus Christ at the age of 17 that I discovered that my purpose was to live life for Him. Throughout my years of walking with God, I’ve always asked Him what that would practically look like. I’ll admit that I still don’t fully know; I know I want to impact the world, but in what capacity, what kind of change, and who would I impact? I have yet to find out.

I am going to Vietnam this summer because I want to connect to the land from which my family originates. Over the last few months, God has really given me a heart to impact Vietnam for Jesus. This trip will also allow me to symbolically reconcile with the land on behalf of my family, since my parents were exiled from the country as a result of war. This trip will also facilitate my personal development by giving me the chance to learn how to live for the purposes of God’s kingdom through hands-on experience and service. I can only hope that I will be ready for Vietnam and that they will be ready for a girl like me! ☺

What I Will Be Doing

My team will mainly be serving and ministering the country’s largest city, Saigon, which has a population of 4 million. We will be serving with a church called Assembly of God. Through teaching, we will be equipping the elders and youth leaders coming from neighboring churches with knowledge of the prophetic and of His healing power. Because Vietnam is a communist country, the idea of “freedom of religion” does not really exist due to the government’s restrictions. Their freedom to worship is limited. With that said, we will also be going to other provinces in Vietnam, visiting and teaching at house churches. Muy interesante!

Lastly, while in Vietnam, either my team or just myself will be going to an orphanage. I will meet the caretakers and talk to them about their experience and needs. Through my interactions with individuals operating and running the orphanage, I hope to assist them in improving and upgrading the facility, whether it is through monetary donations; other donations such as food, clothes, and toiletries; or even recruiting more volunteers. This experience will also enable me to come up with ideas and help others to build more orphanages in Vietnam.

There are seven of us going including myself. We are each asked to raise $2,500, a total $17,500. Any monetary donation will help! Whether it is a $1, $10, $100, or even $1000.
